Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 September 2026

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Valerii Ilovaiskyi, an individual entrepreneur registered in Ukraine ("we", "us"), governing your use of the Lumina mobile application and related services.

By creating an account or using Lumina, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Lumina.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity that occurs under your account. Provide accurate information when registering.

You may delete your account at any time from within the app. Deletion is permanent: your progress, experience points, streaks and saved passages cannot be recovered afterwards.

We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms.

4. What Lumina provides

Lumina provides original analytical summaries and study materials about published non-fiction books, together with quizzes, review cards and a progression system.

Our summaries are our own work. They are original commentary and analysis written for Lumina. They are not reproductions, translations, abridgements or licensed adaptations of the books they discuss. Book titles and author names are used only to identify the works being discussed.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any author or publisher whose work is discussed in Lumina.

Reading a Lumina summary is not a substitute for reading the original book. If a book interests you, we encourage you to buy it.

5. Intellectual property

All content in Lumina — summaries, quizzes, review cards, illustrations, the progression system, and the application itself — is owned by us and protected by copyright.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Lumina for your own learning. You may not copy, redistribute, publish, sell, or create derivative works from our content, and you may not use it to train machine learning models or build a competing service.

Short passages may be shared personally, for example on social media, with attribution to Lumina.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to: attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems; scrape, bulk-download or systematically extract our content; interfere with the operation of the service; or use the service in violation of applicable law.

7. Not professional advice

Lumina's content is educational. It summarises the ideas of book authors and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, medical or psychological advice. We do not endorse the claims made in the books we summarise, and some of those claims are contested. Decisions you make based on this content are your own responsibility. Consult a qualified professional before acting on anything with material consequences for your finances or health.

8. Subscriptions

Parts of Lumina may be offered on a paid subscription in future. If and when they are, purchases will be made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and billing, renewals, cancellations and refunds will be governed by the store's terms as well as these terms. Prices and terms will be shown to you before purchase.

During the beta period, all content is available at no cost.

9. Availability

We aim to keep Lumina available and accurate, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the content is free of mistakes. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the service.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or opportunity, arising from your use of Lumina. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or €50.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Ukraine. If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, you retain the protections of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app before taking effect. Continuing to use Lumina after a change means you accept the updated terms.

  2. Identification of the material in our app that is claimed to be infringing, with sufficient detail so we can locate it.
